Dames Point Marine Terminal Expansion Permitting

RS&H is currently serving as an on-call consultant to provide general engineering services to the Jacksonville Port Authority (JAXPORT). JAXPORT is a full-service, international trade seaport located in northeast Florida and is situated at the crossroads of the nation’s rail and highway network. The port owns, maintains, and markets three cargo terminals and one passenger cruise terminal along the St. John’s River: Blount Island Marine Terminal, Dames Point Marine Terminal (location of cruise facility), and Talleyrand Marine Terminal.

RS&H provided conceptual engineering and supporting documents to JAXPORT for the development of the Dames Point Marine Terminal expansion permitting project. The scope of work included participating in discussions with JAXPORT and a proposed tenant related to expansion opportunities, environmental impacts, and mitigation options. This information is being used by RS&H and JAXPORT for the preparation and submittal of environmental approvals for an expansion of Dames Point Marine Terminal that will include an estimated 45 acres of additional paved area north of Wynn’s Creek.

RS&H also provided environmental permitting services to JAXPORT for a complex project to eliminate erosion impacts in Wynn’s Creek. RS&H developed an innovative mitigation strategy that allowed JAXPORT to acquire the permits needed in six months to maintain the project schedule and budget. RS&H coordinated with permitting agencies to create a permanent solution to the erosion that was occurring and develop wetland creation plans to mitigate environmental impacts.
