Protecting, Sustaining, & Advancing Our Nation

As war became imminent in 1941, RS&H’s founders came together to establish one of the first full-service architecture and engineering firms with the singular goal of aiding in the nation’s effective mobilization efforts. Since then, RS&H has supported United States federal agencies in achieving their missions.

In our eight decades of experience, we have delivered new construction, renovations, repurposing, and commissioning projects across the country and overseas for agencies including Department of Defense agencies such as the U.S. Navy, Air Force, and Army, as well as federal agencies such as the Department of Energy, Department of Veterans Affairs, Federal Emergency Management Agency, and National Park Service. Whether designing administrative and community support buildings, high-performing mission support facilities, or critical airfield infrastructure, we are committed to supporting our nation’s military personnel.

Our experienced, integrated teams leverage in-depth knowledge of all agency criteria and standards to effectively deliver cost-effective, sustainable solutions that meet your agency’s mission.

RS&H is ready to partner with you to help achieve your goals.

Located in the South Atlantic Ocean, Ascension Island is an isolated volcanic island that capitalizes on its strategic location for both the United States Air Force and the United Kingdom Royal Air Force. In the remote area, this shared runway has been described as the “lifeline to the island” for both economic and logistical purposes.

When the Air Force needed its first new F-22 facilities in more than a decade as part of the permanent relocation of the F-22 Raptor Formal Training Unit (FTU) mission from Tyndall Air Force Base (AFB), FL, to Joint Base Langley-Eustis (JBLE), VA, it trusted RS&H to lead the design as part of a joint venture (JV).

RS&H’s design team successfully addressed several areas of complexity. In addition to developing an operational layout for the unique functional areas of the building, the designers had to consider the existence of contaminated soil and potential dewatering on the project site.
