RS&H Taps Robbie as Firm’s National Design Director

August 7, 2017

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Philip Robbie’s career as an architect has been a journey, taking him from his native Cleveland, Ohio, across the U.S. and into Canada. From co-owning a firm to working for some of the largest architecture agencies in the world, Robbie channels a vast expanse of experience.

RS&H, one of the nation’s leading architecture and engineering firms, has named Robbie its National Design Director.

“This is it,” Robbie said. “This is my dream job. It’s what I’ve prepared for, and I’m ready to go.”

As National Design Director, Robbie is tasked with continuously improving RS&H’s building design capabilities, working with architects and engineers from RS&H’s corporate, aerospace and defense, transportation and aviation practices.

“Philip is a great addition to our team and our culture,” said RS&H Executive Vice President John Bottaro. “His level of design talent can transform architecture into an art form. We’re not a design firm with preconceived ideas, and Philip knows how to create responsive solutions for each client.”

After graduating from Kent State University’s College of Architecture, Robbie joined a firm he quickly became partner in, Blunden Barclay Robbie. After 18 years in Cleveland, he moved to Florida to serve as Design Director for BRPH. Robbie spent four years as Principal at NORR Limited in Washington, D.C., and Toronto before returning to Cleveland to become Senior Project Director at Perspectus Architecture.

Coming back to Florida – in fact, coming to RS&H – feels like coming home, Robbie said. As for the position, Robbie breaks it down into three words: connect, energize and lead.

“We need to define the traits of RS&H that are sincerely and uniquely ours,” he said. “It’s getting the cohesive, quintessential aspects of who we are that can crystalize into something tangible, beautiful, whole and complete.

“This is the message we all need to create and embrace to move forward. It can create incredible architecture.”
