RS&H completed the latest Master Plan for Tooele Valley Airport (TVY), showcasing our Planning Service group’s expertise and commitment to creative and strategic development solutions. The master plan’s key focus areas addressed Land Use Compatibility and Zoning, Utilities, Landside Access, and Facility Development, as well as implementing a strategy to acquire land and improve community engagement. Our holistic approach highlighted our ability to integrate the airport’s needs with development goals.
One of the multiple project challenges involved airspace impacts between the nearby SLCDA airports (Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC), South Valley Regional Airport (U42), and TVY). RS&H created a plan that considered airspace impacts not only to TVY but to the entire SLCDA system of airports, as a change to one airport impacted all airports.
Our Planning Service group’s approach demonstrated our understanding of airport systems’ interconnected nature and our ability to develop comprehensive solutions that consider the broader aviation ecosystem. Our strategic planning ensured the enhancements at TVY complemented the operations of the entire SLCDA system, reinforcing our commitment to creating synergistic and sustainable airport infrastructures.
TVY provides many aviation-related services, including skydiving. Due to the lack of guidance concerning parachute landing areas (PLA) for airports that can accommodate these “nontraditional” aeronautical activities, our project team collaborated with the FAA and nationally recognized parachute industry leaders to determine a strategy to right-size and locate a PLA. The preferred PLA site was developed taking into consideration the experience of the parachutist and the type of parachute used to increase the safety of people and property. Aside from PLAs, skydiving facilities at TVY were incorporated into the preferred development plan to include customer-facing buildings, vehicle parking, administrative buildings, packing and staging facilities, and an aircraft storage hangar.
