F-35A Developmental Test 2-Bay Maintenance Hangar

Project Details

RS&H delivered comprehensive multidisciplinary design services for a state-of-the-art F-35A maintenance hangar and supporting airfield infrastructure at Eglin Air Force Base, home to one of the nation’s premier centers for F-35 test and evaluation. The project strengthens Eglin’s vital role in advancing fifth-generation fighter capabilities, supporting the developmental and operational testing that ensures the F-35 remains the world’s most advanced combat aircraft.

At the heart of the project is a 42,000-square-foot, two-bay controlled-access maintenance facility specifically designed to support advanced weapons integration and mission readiness operations. Equipped with specialized blast deflectors for F-35A weapons testing, the facility enables highly technical maintenance and testing activities in a secure, mission-focused environment. The project also includes an 11,205-square-foot aircraft parking apron, comprehensive utility infrastructure, a reinforced concrete foundation, structural steel framing, split-faced concrete masonry construction, a durable standing-seam metal roof system, advanced fire protection, high-performance HVAC systems, and secure communications and server infrastructure.

Designed to meet the demanding requirements of the Air Force’s F-35 mission while maximizing long-term value, the facility incorporates sustainable, life-cycle cost-effective solutions and energy-efficient systems. The result is resilient, high-performance infrastructure that enhances operational capability, supports evolving mission requirements, and contributes to the future of tactical airpower at Eglin AFB.
