RS&H Vice President and Healthcare Leader Michael Vascellaro was featured in recent article in Healthcare Design, titled “Spaces That Bring Medical Research Into Clinical Practice.” As the primary source and subject matter expert for the article, Vascellaro addressed the trends in “translational medicine,” in which research and clinical application are brought closer together.
“Because both the research and clinical care aspects of translational medicine are highly interactive, there’s a growing trend to bring these functions together inside one, highly collaborative space,” said Vascellaro.
He added that economic pressures have been strengthening the collaboration as well citing research institutions who seek private sector funding via public-private partnerships to support their medical research initiatives. At the same time, he said, healthcare organizations are looking to create a specialty niche to gain an edge on the competition as research and development are a key way to advance their healthcare profiles.
