Owners, designers and contractors all have roles and responsibilities in delivering a project on schedule. To stay on that schedule requires engagement, partnership, extensive communication and cohesive management among a design-build team.

In the latest episode of Managing the Risk, RS&H Design-Build Manager Rob Smedley, AIA, joins host Chad Walker to discuss challenges with managing the design phase of design-build projects and preserving claims for impacts to the design schedule.

Smedley is not only the design-build manager for Buildings at RS&H, but he also serves as both the National and Florida Region Membership Chair of the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA). In the episode, he offers insight into the design-builder’s and owner’s role in maintaining the design schedule, and the importance of communication between all participants in the project. Based on his past experience, Smedley provides real world examples of breakdowns in the management of the design phase.
