I’d have to say my biggest accomplishment is being able to work with our folks closely. Helping them be successful, helping them work safely, helping them get the right training and the right PPE. I want to continue motivating and championing our folks, let them know why health and safety is not just important for them, but it’s important for me, as well. I try not to lose sleep when our folks are out working late hours or early mornings, but I do. I think about it all the time – that’s what my passion is for. Part of the accomplishment I feel is seeing folks smile, and win, and get to go home at the end of the day, wherever that is. We all deserve to be home safely.
I recently graduated with my Master of Science in Occupational Safety and Health, and it was both very aggressive and very rewarding. It was hard trying to figure out how to balance home life, work, and thinking about my future. My goal right now is to continue building on that momentum, going after more certifications, eventually. I’d like to continue advancing within RS&H, too.
I’d like to say that the culture of safety has been strong. It’s a giant movement within the firm and the A/E/C industry at large. When you go to RS&H’s website, you can see a strong attention to detail regarding the safety of the firm’s associates, and I think that’s important. I believe that RS&H is very grounded, and I think we’re headed in the right direction.
I’m usually swamped, but I enjoy going out in my RV with my family during downtime. My wife and I like to spend time at theme parks or the beach. I have seven grown children and four grandchildren, so we spend a lot of our free time on the road going to visit our children and grandchildren, because not all of them are here in Jacksonville. I also love cooking. If it’s in a recipe book, I can cook it – and I can cook it well.
