The Orlando Health South Lake Hospital Center for Specialty Surgery in Clermont, Florida, is featured this month in Healthcare Design Magazine. The RS&H-designed facility will offer a unique approach for patients recovering from extensive outpatient surgeries such as orthopedic, podiatry, and pain management procedures.
The goal for the 29,000-square-foot facility, scheduled to open in November, is to perform total joint replacements—long, multidiscipline surgeries that require a recovery time beyond the average outpatient procedure. However, patients here will avoid an acute care hospital stay following those surgeries by having hospitalists on staff to monitor patients requiring less than a 24-hour recovery. The perioperative environment includes eight pre-operative bays, eight post-operative bays, four phase II recliner bays, and a five-bed observational unit.
