RS&H, one of the leading architecture, engineering and consulting firms in the nation, has hired Gordon Simmons, P.E., as its Military Programs Leader for the firm’s Aerospace and Defense Practice.  Simmons, who retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) in December, brings a wealth of knowledge and experience from both home and abroad to RS&H, which has worked with the USACE on several projects across the country.

“I absolutely love engineering, and I really love supporting our military and their families,” Simmons said. “Knowing that we’re doing our part to enable our soldiers, to provide the facilities they need to protect the nation’s security interests, that’s a big deal to me.”

Simmons became the Chief of Engineering Division for the USACE’s Savannah District in November 2010. In that position, Simmons was responsible for planning, directing, coordination, and execution of the design of the District’s Military, Civil, and Hazardous, Toxic and Radioactive Waste program. Prior to becoming Chief, he was the Deputy Chief of Engineering and Chief of the Technical Specialties Branch in the Savannah District. Earlier in his career, he headed an office of 52 design professionals responsible for the design of military facilities; construction field assistance; quality assurance; and design or support of other projects for the District serving Army and Air Force installations in North and South Carolina and Georgia.

Simmons has received numerous awards and recognition including the Department of the Army Meritorious Civilian Service Award and a Silver de Fleury Medal. He is the recipient of the Connolly Award from the American Society of Military Engineers (SAME) for notable contributions to engineering, and he earned the Vice President’s Annual Award from SAME’s Atlanta Region in 2017.

“Gordon’s distinguished career with the USACE and his wealth of knowledge and expertise will further strengthen the great team we have built here at RS&H,” said RS&H Aerospace and Defense Practice Director Steven Moore.

A Texas native, Simmons holds a Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering from Texas A&M University and a Master’s of Science in Administration from Central Michigan University.
