[Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.] – RS&H recently welcomed Xiaojun “Jim” Gu, PhD, PE, PTOE, IMSA III, to the national engineering, architecture, and consulting firm as the National ITS & Traffic Design Leader. In his role, Gu will oversee client management activities, actively participate in and lead pursuits, and act as the primary point of contact for coordinating resources as the construction services group works on upcoming projects.

“Jim’s addition to our Traffic Engineering Service Group is a significant asset,” said Thomas Kelly, PE, PTOE, Traffic Engineering Group Leader. “His vast experience in ITS [Intelligent Transportation Systems], traffic design, and transportation electrical engineering will bolster our team’s capabilities and expand our resources. Jim will greatly enhance our ability to serve our clients.”

With over 20 years of experience in ITS, Transportation Systems Management and Operations deployment, roadway lighting, signal design, signing & pavement markings, and traffic studies, Gu brings a wealth of direct and relevant knowledge to his role. He managed major ITS design projects, developed multiple requests for proposal packages, and conducted requirements analyses for new designs. Gu’s experience also includes freeway system operations, having worked inside a major Florida Department of Transportation traffic management center as an extension of their staff. In addition to his ITS and traffic design experience, Gu’s expertise covers scope development, tradeoff studies, cost benefit analysis, and much more.

“The RS&H culture is unparalleled. Everyone is friendly and excited about their work, leading to more productivity,” said Gu. “I’m eager to apply my 20 years of hands-on experience to build a top ITS/traffic design team for a variety of client projects nationwide.”

Gu attended the University of Miami, where he received his Doctor of Philosophy in Transportation Engineering. He is a licensed professional engineer in civil and electrical engineering, a certified International Municipal Signal Association Level III, and a Professional Traffic Operations Engineer
