The Wilmington Bypass, an extension of the Interstate 140 loop around Wilmington, North Carolina, has been recognized by ENR Southeast as the best highway and bridge project in the Southeast for 2018.
RS&H designed two parallel, prestressed concrete bridges that stretch 7,200 feet over the Cape Fear River as part of the $124 million, three-mile-long project. The new extension completes a 15-year-long planning and development effort by the North Carolina Department of Transportation to relieve growing traffic congestion in New Hanover and Brunswick counties.
RS&H Senior Bridge Group Leader Richard Bollinger Jr. served as project manager on the Cape Fear River bridges, which opened to traffic in November 2017.
