Employee-Owned RS&H Recognized for Excellence in Charlotte Parking Garage, Detroit Airport Health Station and Colorado Highway Expansion

[Jacksonville, Fla] RS&H Inc., an employee-owned architecture, engineering and consulting firm, has received three prestigious regional ENR Best Project Awards recognizing innovative design solutions and exceptional project execution that advance industry standards.

The firm earned the Best Project Award in the Texas & Southeast Region’s Landscape/Urban Development category for a Confidential Client’s Customer Information Center Parking Garage in Charlotte, North Carolina. RS&H also received an Award of Merit in the Midwest Region’s Small Construction category for the CDC Port Health Station Buildout at Detroit Metropolitan Airport and an Award of Merit in the Mountain States Region’s Highway/Bridge category for the North I-25 Express Lanes, Johnstown to Fort Collins, Design-Build project.

Transformative Infrastructure Design in Charlotte

The award-winning parking garage project showcases cutting-edge infrastructure innovation with its 860,000-square-foot facility, which accommodates 2,500 vehicles. The structure features a groundbreaking double-helix ramping system that enhances traffic flow and reduces travel times, while a parking count system guides people to open spaces. The facade of the structure used a mixture of brick, perforated metal panels, and kinetic panels to create a dynamic visual appeal while blending into the overall campus. Despite record-breaking rainfall and complex blasting requirements, the project team completed construction six weeks ahead of schedule, maintaining a 0.00 recordable injury rate through the implementation of comprehensive safety protocols.

“This achievement exemplifies exceptional collaboration with Rodgers Builders, Kimley-Horn and all of our outstanding project partners,” said Matt Tracy, RS&H project manager. “Together, we combined innovation, meticulous attention to detail and creativity to deliver a state-of-the-art facility that redefines corporate infrastructure possibilities.”

Healthcare Innovation Meets Aviation Excellence

The Detroit Metropolitan Airport CDC Port Health Station represents purpose-driven design at the intersection of aviation and healthcare infrastructure. The project successfully transformed constrained airside space into a cutting-edge facility featuring specialized assessment areas, personal protective equipment management zones and antimicrobial finishes that balance functionality with user comfort.

“This achievement underscores the profound impact that thoughtful design can have on communities. By truly listening to end-users and engaging all stakeholders, while drawing on decades of experience in planning and design within relevant environments, we were able to distill the project down to what was genuinely needed,” said Sloan Lavery, associate AIA and RS&H architect. “By uniting healthcare and aviation expertise within a tightly regulated environment, this buildout offers a pioneering model for integrating healthcare functionality within airport infrastructure.”

Enhancing Mobility and Safety in Colorado

The recognized North I-25 Express Lanes project enhanced mobility and safety along a critical 14.5-mile corridor in northern Colorado. The design-build effort expanded the highway, reconfigured major interchanges, and introduced significant mobility enhancements, including multi-use trails and a first-in-the-state median-loading bus rapid transit hub. The project team navigated mid-design scope changes and complex environmental constraints to deliver a high-quality transportation solution on schedule.

“The I-25 North project stands as a model for successful infrastructure development,” said Brendan Carroll, PE, CFM, Vice President of RS&H. “This is a transformative infrastructure project that will support the ongoing growth and economic vitality of northern Colorado. This kind of project is why I became an engineer.”

The awards underscore RS&H’s commitment to creating tomorrow, together with integrated solutions that address evolving client needs and community challenges. These recognitions reflect the firm’s strategic focus on linking and leveraging expertise across disciplines to deliver transformative results.
