This distinguished recognition highlights Grainger’s outstanding leadership and significant contributions to advancing the SAME Strategic Plan.

The President’s Medal, first awarded in 1992, represents one of SAME’s highest honors, celebrating individuals who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and delivered meaningful results in support of the organization’s mission. This award is personally determined by the SAME President and Executive Director, making it a unique acknowledgment of impact and achievement. “I’m presenting Scott with the President’s medal for his willingness and ambition to lead the Society in delivering solutions and his outstanding support of the Strategic Plan. In the past year alone, he’s been instrumental in two different initiatives, the National Camp Program and the restructuring of the Board of Direction,” said SAME National President Sharon Krock, SPWS, F.SAME.

“As someone who has dedicated my career to fostering meaningful relationships and addressing complex challenges, I am deeply honored to receive the SAME President’s Medal,” said Grainger. “Even after moving into the private sector, I want to continue working to solve pressing challenges collaboratively to support all of our service members.”

With over 30 years of experience in engineering and leadership within the U.S. Air Force and beyond, Grainger has had an exemplary career. Before joining RS&H, he served as the Professor of Air and Space Studies at the University of Portland and as Commander of the U.S. Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps at Detachment 695. Grainger has held several critical roles at Air Force bases, major commands and headquarters, showcasing his deep expertise in engineering and leadership.

Throughout his military career, Grainger has also garnered more than a decade of international experience, having led deployments in Djibouti, Iraq, and Qatar. A Fellow of the Society of American Military Engineers, he continues to be an influential leader within its ranks, serving as an elected member of the National Board of Direction, Deputy Regional Vice President for the Northern Tier Region, and Vice Chair for Post Level Leader Development Programs.

The SAME President’s Medal exemplifies the spirit of innovation, commitment, and excellence that drives the military engineering community forward. Grainger’s recognition with this award cements his legacy as a leader dedicated to growth, collaboration and meaningful results for the profession.
