The Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) leads collaborative efforts to identify and resolve national security infrastructure-related challenges. Now, the organization of more than 30,000 members has two new leaders from RS&H.

RS&H Vice President Scott Jarvis and Business Development Lead Lisa Thoele, two leaders in the engineering and architecture design firm’s Aerospace and Defense practice, have moved into two SAME leadership roles. Thoele chairs the Young Members Council for SAME members under 40, and Jarvis is now the regional vice president of SAME’s Rocky Mountain Region.

“It’s a big honor to serve and be an advocate for the future leaders in our industry,” Thoele said.

Founded in 1920, SAME unites public and private sector individuals and organizations from across the architecture, engineering, construction, environmental and facility management, cyber security, project planning, contracting and acquisition, and related disciplines in support of national security.

With a membership that includes recent service academy graduates and retired engineering officers, project managers and corporate executives, uniformed and public sector professionals and private sector experts, SAME bridges the gaps between critical stakeholders to help secure our nation.

For Thoele, her group is charged with promoting and developing a strong and lasting mentoring bond between SAME fellows, members, and young members. Growing young professionals in the field is especially important, as the demand for engineers and designers continues to grow.

Those efforts begin when future engineers are still in high school, Jarvis said.

“One of the major focuses of SAME is to support STEM programs across the country,” he added. “We want to foster and encourage kids to get into a STEM-related degree and into our field. It’s a national effort.”

It’s an effort Jarvis will also have a close role in. As regional vice president of the Rocky Mountain Region, Jarvis will oversee posts in Colorado, New Mexico, Wyoming and Montana, serving as a link between the national leadership and local posts. He’ll also be involved with the annual Engineering and Construction Camp for high school students hosted by SAME’s Pike’s Peak and Denver Metro posts at the U.S. Air Force Academy.

“We’ll have high schoolers from across the country come in and design concrete beams, build them and then break them to test strengths,” Jarvis said. “They get a great understanding of what it means to be an engineer or an architect.”

Jarvis and Thoele are just two of a handful of RS&H leaders who hold leadership positions within SAME.
