RS&H designed the Waterview Office Park, home of our corporate headquarters in Jacksonville, Florida, in 2003. The entire complex includes two, three-story commercial office buildings that house multiple tenants and share lakeside patio areas, as well as a common entrance court for visitors.
We have continued to design and implement upgrades to the Waterview I facility, resulting in the building’s LEED Silver certification in 2012. Upgrades included modifying lighting and controls, replacing plumbing fixtures, and adding CO2 sensors and rooftop unit meters to the mechanical system.
In addition, RS&H helped the owner implement more sustainable policies and procedures for the building’s janitorial staff and waste-management efforts.
RS&H retro-commissioned the Waterview Office Park, which consists of two, 90,000-square-foot office buildings. The retro-commissioning effort included HVAC systems comprised of three 80-ton rooftop units, variable air volume boxes, fan terminal units, exhaust fans, a computer room air conditioning (CRAC) unit, and a ductless split system. The commissioning effort also included interior and exterior lighting and controls, plumbing fixtures, and the building envelope.
Using results from an internal audit of our own waste stream, we identified a substantial opportunity to reduce our disposal costs by removing recycling commodities from the existing waste stream. We also engaged associates at all levels to collaborate and develop a recycling program that would improve the efficiency of recycling throughout the building. The team strategically placed collection containers for new paper, plastic, cardboard, aluminum, batteries, and electronics throughout the facility to make recycling more convenient for our associates.
RS&H’s companywide recycling program has also resulted in a 50-percent reduction in waste for its headquarters facility, while our affirmative procurement (green purchasing) program promotes the use of recycled products.
