P-8A Maintenance and Training Facility Commissioning, NAS Jacksonville, FL
With fleet introduction of the P-8A Poseidon aircraft, NAVFAC SE looked to RS&H to provide independent Commissioning Authority and Commissioning Services for the new Training Facility at NAS Jacksonville. The P-8A Poseidon is the latest Navy aircraft designed to execute long-range anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions.
Commissioning Services provided included LEED Enhanced Commissioning in pursuit of LEED Silver Certification. The building mechanical/HVAC, electrical/lighting, domestic water, renewable resources (rainwater harvesting and solar hot water), and control systems were each commissioned. Building operation and energy performance was optimized through calibration of critical sensors and functional performance testing. An Energy Star and High Performance Sustainable Building evaluation were also performed during the first year of building occupancy.
The facility includes large shop areas and training classrooms to support the Ordnance Loading Trainer, Integrated Avionics Trainer, Maintenance Training for Fuel System, Flight Control/Hydraulics, Landing Gear, Engine, and Environmental Control Systems. Each simulator will prepare future Poseidon pilots, naval flight officers and aircrew to perform in the newest Navy aircraft. Other areas include shops for maintenance of training devices, mission control rooms, secure briefing rooms, electronic classrooms plus computer and support spaces for administrators and teachers.
