Ivanhoe Groundwater Remediation
Part of a natural gas pipeline system, the Ivanhoe Compressor Station dehydrates and compresses natural gas it receives from gathering lines before rerouting the gas to the main line. Hydrocarbon loss from two impoundments used to contain the pipeline condensate resulted in groundwater impacts over a 300-acre area.
To remedy contaminated groundwater, RS&H reviewed contamination assessment reports for the facility then designed, pilot tested, and implemented an air sparging and vapor extraction system. The system included approximately four miles of pipe, custom-designed mechanical and electrical systems, and compressors totaling 350 horsepower. Extracted vapor was treated with a thermal oxidizer/catalytic converter, which converted hydrocarbon constituents to carbon dioxide (CO2) and water vapor. The system is the largest air sparging and vapor extraction system in Oklahoma.
