Felburn Foundation Boundless Playground
RS&H was requested by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection Office of Greenways and Trails to design a “boundless” playground for their Wakulla Station trailhead location. A boundless playground is a playground that is specifically designed for children of all different ages and abilities to be able play and learn together. We worked closely with the playground equipment manufacturer and the Office of Greenways and Trails to find the best solution that would provide enriching play experiences for the users, while keeping construction costs low.
The playground includes shaded play areas, sand play, play equipment for all ages, and ramps and swings that accommodate children of varying levels of ability. There are also several picnic shelters throughout the playground. Between the play equipment, shelters, and sidewalks, there are also native plant areas designed to attract butterflies and reduce water use.
The playground is located at a popular trailhead to the Tallahassee-St. Marks Historic Railroad State Trail. We provided all design services pro bono, and a nature-based organization made a donation toward construction costs.
