Automobile Processing Expansion Options
Under a General Engineering Consultant contract, RS&H developed options for increasing automobile processing at three of Jacksonville Port Authority’s (JAXPORT) marine terminals: Talleyrand, Dames Point, and Blount Island.
JAXPORT is a leader among ports in automobile importing and exporting. These particular operations require considerable real estate acreage for parking during the processing of these vehicles, which includes items such as putting final trim packages, tires, and interior amenities on vehicles. Knowledge of the processing operations and restrictions, including having the facilities close to the berths to limit mileage on the new vehicles, un-registered vehicle use restrictions on public roadways, etc., were important considerations when determining potential sites for auto processing.
RS&H evaluated the cost for types of facilities, real estate needs, and construction to allow JAXPORT to plan for future expansion by developing a capital budget to meet their growing needs. Our teams’ knowledge of these facilities and strengths in the areas of environmental permitting, design of structures, and cost estimating, were critical in providing accurate information the port can use for investment decisions. JAXPORT continues to assess this vital information as they plan for future expansion and terminal modifications due to the constant and dynamic changes in the port business.
