Who We Serve

New Facilities

RS&H has significant experience in cutting edge architectural design for new facilities. We plan and design for the interaction of people while being responsive to our clients’ operational processes and programmatic needs. We take the business of architecture seriously and recognizing the policies and procedural concerns of our clients are most important in the creation of new facilities that are functional and meet program, schedule, and budgetary goals.

Our approach to the design of new facilities emphasizes collaboration. This process for design resolution and refinement encourages input from all stakeholders. Through a participatory process utilizing workshops and review sessions, we encourage interaction in a creative and collaborative setting. In turn, we engage in open, honest, and exciting inquiry into the functional, architectural, and artistic ambitions of our clients and together realize those goals in the architectural design.

Our goal in designing additions/renovations facilities is to express the purpose and spirit of the program through the interpretation of the project's unique requirements and context. The primary influences are users of the facility, the program, and the site context. The continuity of our firm’s work is that each project is unique in its response to specific requirements and context.

The basic premise of each design concept is the diligent resolution of program and functional requirements in the context of specific site influences. We believe that this approach inspires good architectural design. The integration of functional requirements and contextual site influences in a coordinated design scheme serves to enrich the building and enhance the surrounding environment. The building becomes richer functionally being a part of the larger context. We owe the creative ideas for our projects to the indigenous character and influences of the locations in which they are built.

We focus our creative efforts in additions/renovations facilities on the development of unique and appropriate solutions to the issues defined by the project program, acknowledging opportunities and challenges suggested by the particular environmental setting. We regard architecture as a problem solving process, giving the highest priority to the specific and ultimate needs of our clients. We encourage user participation and criticism, knowing that dialogue produces a more comprehensive and appropriate design solution.

LEED/Sustainable Design

As a leading facilities and infrastructure firm, RS&H provides architectural designs that enhance today’s built and natural environments while creating lasting benefits for future generations. Our architects serve a wide spectrum of clients who desire sustainable solutions and designs that enhance our communities, the environment, and fiscal performance. As a national firm, we recognize our responsibility to find progressive, innovative solutions for improving overall quality of life while advancing our clients’ goals in a social, economic, and environmentally responsive manner.

Through our industry-centered programs, architecturally, RS&H is designing more efficient buildings while reducing waste and minimizing our generation’s carbon footprint.

Building Information Modeling (BIM)

Design visualizations are an exceptional medium and a “virtual” necessity to accurately visualize, thoroughly study, and effectively communicate building designs and systems. Building Information Modeling (BIM) represents an exciting new approach to building design and allows RS&H and its clients to effectively visualize and communicate design solutions from a project’s planning stages through construction administration and into facility management.

BIM utilizes a parametric change engine, which coordinates changes made anywhere in the model views, drawing sheets, schedules, or plans. This minimizes system conflicts commonly found in traditional 2-D design. We utilize this increased efficiency to focus on the design and detailing of a project.

By leveraging BIM at RS&H, we are able to provide increased value to our clients. Implementing BIM on projects increases:

  • Collaborative design and coordination resulting in less RFI’s on a project and reduced change orders.
  • Reducing Energy Usage and Operating Cost. The BIM data can be exported to numerous analysis programs to yield an accurate account of a building’s design and allows the opportunity to investigate alternatives from operational and aesthetic perspectives.
  • Accurate and understandable visualization of the intended design by the owner as well as the constructor. BIM allows the team to view detail conditions in 3-D well before shop drawings are fabricated and is instrumental in the coordination of building systems.
