USDA Horticultural Research Laboratory Complex

RS&H provided architecture, engineering, and programming services for the U.S. Department of Agriculture Horticultural Research Laboratory Complex in Fort Pierce, Florida. The complex includes approximately 135,000 square feet of laboratory, greenhouse/screenhouse space, and a 300-acre research and development plot for the citrus and subtropical agriculture industries.

This laboratory employs a staff of 26 scientists plus support personnel, representing the research disciplines of horticulture, genetics, pathology, entomology, chemistry, biochemistry, and physiology. Accommodating for all disciplines, the facility fosters the opportunity for interdisciplinary research relating to a wide variety of anticipated citrus production and marketing challenges. 

RS&H prepared a 3-D interior/exterior computer model, allowing a “walk through” of the building during design, thereby inviting necessary adjustments prior to completing construction documents.
