Wind Energy Generation System Design for AUTEC, Andros Island, Bahamas
RS&H prepared full site plans, specifications, and cost estimates for the construction of a wind energy generation system capable of producing up to 1MW at Atlantic Undersea Test and Evaluation Center (AUTEC) on Andros Island in the Bahamas. Plans included infrastructure improvements and the procurement necessary to integrate a wind turbine generator (WTG) into the installation’s power grid.
RS&H studied and recommended optimal sites and equipment based on:
- Prevailing wind data
- Mission impacts
- Required standoff from structures and hazards (radio, explosion, and radar)
- Impacts to wetlands
- Karst (fragmented limestone) aquifer recharge
- Future siting of additional WTGs
