Willametta Valley Cancer Institute & Research Center
The Willamette Valley Cancer Institute and Research Center (WVCI) in Eugene, Oregon, is affiliated with US Oncology, one of the largest cancer treatment networks in the country. To provide care to more patients throughout the community, the organization called for a 7,600-square-foot, two-story addition and a 13,000-square-foot renovation that increases the cancer center footprint by 25 percent.
The new addition and renovation features a new 40-seat IV therapy suite with private infusion rooms, USP 800 compliant retail pharmacy, blood testing laboratory, clinical trial-research department, breast center clinical suite, business administration offices, and a staff meeting/lounge. The design incorporates plenty of views and access to landscaped areas and the surrounding natural scenery. The additional and renovated square footage provides a collaborative environment for WVCI’s integrated care model.
Located in seismic category “D”, RS&H structural and MEP engineering designed the addition in full compliance with local code requirements for earthquake design. In addition, the engineering team was challenged with making economical selections on steel moment-resisting frames, MEP components, supports, and seismic restraint systems.
