Urban Circulator Feasibility Study
The Coastal Region Metropolitan Planning Organization, through a general support contract with RS&H, and in coordination with Chatham Area Transit, completed an Urban Circulator Study for the historic district of Savannah and suburban areas to the south. This study was a data-driven, technical feasibility analysis that provides the City of Savannah and the transit agency with the information and technical underpinning needed to make a smart business decision regarding streetcar and to pursue federal funding if desired.
This study used a non-biased approach and data obtained from research on implementation of other streetcar systems. The effort, which included extensive coordination with a technical working group comprised of staff from involved agencies, examined vehicle and system technology, potential corridors, and existing and future development potential. The study also included a financial analysis and a more detailed assessment of potential service areas, focusing on the identification of specific routes, stops and ridership, and cost estimates.
