Terremark Network Access Point Facility
RS&H provided complete architectural and engineering services for two facilities located in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The first facility contains 82,000 square feet featuring a 40,000-square-foot data hall surrounded by an equipment gallery. The facility incorporates multiple levels of security and hardened resistance to natural disasters and physical forces, such as hurricanes, seismic conditions, and terrorist attacks. Building shell components are designed to withstand 200-mph winds and ballistic threats. Municipal domestic and fire protection utilities are backed up by an underground cistern. The design followed parameters for a Tier IV data center (S+S) as defined by the Uptime Institute with power and cooling solutions to support the data hall. Design density for the power and cooling solution is 80 Watts/square-foot.
The second project consisted of a re-purposing of an existing two-story building shell originally designed for office/warehouse use. The facility contains 111,000 square feet featuring an aggregate of 48,000 square feet of data hall. RS&H provided a scalable design solution to develop pods of approximately 6,000 square feet of data center space supported by modular systems of mechanical and electrical infrastructure designed to comply with standards for a Tier III data center (2N) as defined by the Uptime Institute. RS&H’s design included structural modifications, architectural, interior design, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection drawings for the build-out. RS&H also provided site planning, as well as construction documents for UPS/generator containers, fuel tank yards, and chiller yards. Design density for the power and cooling solution is 120 Watts/square-foot.
The facility also included a “visitor’s tour” pathway featuring elevated walkways, electric privacy glass, and specialty lighting to provide the public with secure views of the colocation floor, data storage, network operations center, and other building features.
