Main Street Bridge

Jacksonville’s Main Street Bridge was already well known for its brilliant blue color when RS&H was commissioned to design a new lighting scheme. The 1939 steel lift-span bridge and its towers create a gateway to downtown.

To enhance the look of this iconic structure, RS&H employed blue metal halide lamps to intensify the blue color of the bridge. No color filters were required with this method. Vertical color-changing LED stripes create a focal point on each face of the towers, while blue warning lights atop each tower perpetuate the theme of the design.

Computer modeling was used to present the design to the client for approval and plan for utility, with optimized spotlight and floodlight positioning to avoid interference with vehicles and pedestrians as they cross.
