I-70 Wolcott East Overlay
As the prime consultant, RS&H performed construction management, construction observation, documentation, and prepared contractor payments for this $11 million project in Eagle County, Colorado. Over the course of a year, the RS&H team improved the driving surface and safety features on I-70 with the placement of 35,000 tons of SMA and HMA, installation of 55,000 feet of tri beam guardrail, and 75 new end anchorages. Additionally, the bridge rail and fence were removed and replaced on six structures, the overhangs on both sides of one structure were reconstructed, eight bridge decks were rehabilitated, a waterproofing membrane and overlay were added to six structures, and the bridge joints were replaced on eight structures. The project also included repairing a badly-corroded 84-inch corrugated steel pipe with a high-density polyethylene (HDPE) liner, which was grouted into place and included energy-dissipating fins to reduce downstream flow velocities. To ensure these tasks were completed safely, extensive traffic control was required in multiple simultaneous locations.
