Project Description

Gainesville 13th Street Bridge

This project was a key part of the ‘rails to trails’ initiative, focusing on the adaptive reuse & remodeling of a railroad overpass and its connection to adjacent infrastructure. The prominent location offered RS&H the chance to engage the community with a dynamic design, announcing the presence of the completed trail and creating a landmark passage into the city.

When night falls, lighting becomes the leading design element of the Depot Avenue Rail/Trail. Dynamic LED lights reveal the vibrant colors and wave-like contour of this luminous portal. At trail level, the lighted enclosure guides travelers safely across the exciting thoroughfare. LED handrails illuminate terraces and stairs, leading you down to the sidewalk & street below and linking the rail-trail system to an extensive network of multimodal access points.

The lights of the bridge enclosure are programmable color-changing LED’s to offer an almost infinite palette and colors and scenes.
