Atlas V ECS Test Tools
RS&H designed at total of seven test tools, along with ancillary mounting accessories and fittings, to simulate the backpressure of the Atlas V Mobile Launch vehicle for each Environmental Conditioning System (ECS) circuit up to the vehicle. The tools also accurately measure the flow in each circuit so that the ECS system can be balanced and ready for use upon the mobile launch platform’s arrival with the launch vehicle.
Each tool contains a BIF universal venturi tube flow measurement device and a mechanism to vary the backpressure in each leg. The team designed the special tooling in SolidWorks and performed pressure drop analysis of each circuit using Design Flow Solutions design net.
