Albany International Airport
Albany International Airport serves the capital city of New York state and its surrounding capital district communities. The architectural design is inspired by the areas rich heritage, while looking to the future through a series of sequential experiences as the traveler flows through the terminal. Its vaulted entry vestibules and oculus windows recall grand nineteenth century train terminals. The exterior brick wall, arched entry and the main interior maple and cherry wood wall reflect prominent local building materials. The concourses reflect a desire to look to the future with glass designed to allow clear views of aircraft in flight. A strong local art presence including sculpture, poetry, and a fully functioning gallery help to distinguish this airport and connect it to the community.
