Scott Cole Brings NCDOT Experience to RS&H as Transportation Leader
Scott Cole has joined RS&H as the engineering and architecture consulting firm’s North Carolina Senior Transportation Leader, adding immense depth to RS&H’s expertise managing transportation projects across the state.
In RS&H’s Charlotte office, Cole will serve as a technical resource and adviser for large-scale and complex transportation projects, relying on three decades of experience and his established relationships in North Carolina to help the growing office navigate projects.
“I have worked with Scott over my entire career and learned a great deal from him,” said RS&H Vice President Radha Swayampakala, PE. “I am certain his incredible experience will make a positive impact to our team and clients.”
Cole brings widespread knowledge after working 30 years at the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT), where he interfaced with virtually every entity within the Department. Most recently, Cole served as Division 10 Engineer and oversaw 450 employees and a $1.5 billion budget, while implementing a program that included more than 300 projects.
Much of Cole’s work has been aimed at accommodating Charlotte’s substantial growth during the recent decades. He led many large-scale initiatives while at NCDOT, including the Regional Transportation Management Center (TMC), Freeway Management System/ITS expansion and traffic management plans for Charlotte Motor Speedway and Bank of America Stadium.
When he retired from NCDOT in August 2019, the office of the Governor honored him with the Order of the Long Leaf Pine award for his substantial contributions and service to the state.
Cole has relied on an open-minded, common sense and progressive perspective to lead teams that deliver exceptional solutions for the public. Now, he will bring this successful track record to the private sector for the first time.
“This is my first professional work in the private sector, so I hope to quickly acquire the foundational knowledge to bring value in helping our clients achieve their goals,” Cole said. “I think the relationships that I have with stakeholders in our metro area, as well as with staff at NCDOT, and institutional knowledge of the Department will help me quickly make an impact.”
