The first building at NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia has achieved LEED Silver certification. According to a recent article in Island Access, the Wallops Engineering Building E-109 has earned the certification from the U.S. Green Building Council in the building operations and maintenance category.
Wallops and RS&H partnered to document operations, develop new policies, implement energy cost-saving retrofits, and monitor performance of the two-story building. Some of the project’s work included installing low-flow plumbing fixtures resulting in a 21 percent reduction in water use and eliminating water use outside the building by using native vegetation.
