The American Road & Transportation Builders Association’s (ARTBA) official publication, Transportation Builder, recently featured RS&H’s Jack Haynes, PE and Todd Kincaid’s article, “Creativity And Teamwork Save a Landmark Bridge.” The story also made the front cover of the magazine (photo on the left). The feature addressed how collaboration and coordination was key to repairing Jacksonville’s severely damaged Mathew’s Bridge after it was struck by a vessel in September 2013.
Even more pressing, the bridge had to be repaired in time for the city’s marquee event, the Florida-Georgia football game – scheduled only 40 days out. In the article, Haynes, who serves as RS&H’s Bridge Design Leader, said “FDOT and RS&H assembled a team of maintenance personnel, bridge design engineers, contractors, surveyors and steel heat straightening professionals, steel fabricators, pin testers and strain gauge professional to complete the repairs in 32 days in time for the game.”
