RS&H Philadelphia Office Leader and Senior Aviation Engineer Api Appulingam has been named to the executive board of the WTS Philadelphia Chapter. Appulingam will serve as corresponding secretary for the group, which aims to advance women in the transportation industry.

“I feel honored to have been elected to the executive board and to serve with these amazing women,” Appulingam said. “I have served on the board since 2015 as a committee chair, and to know that my contributions were recognized and appreciated means a lot.”

Appulingam has been involved with the WTS Philadelphia Chapter since relocating to Philadelphia with RS&H in 2013. She has already volunteered with the group as its Diversity Committee Chair and Corporate Sponsorship Committee Chair. In this role, she was able to help create partnerships with local transportation agencies – she envisions partnerships with every transportation agency in the city.

“There are a lot of talented women and men on the board with fresh new ideas,” she said. “I am looking forward to keeping the momentum going.”

The WTS Philadelphia Chapter was formed in 1979 by 12 women in transportation who realized that women’s careers would benefit from professional development, encouragement and recognition to support their advancement in transportation professions. Today, the chapter has nearly 300 members and more than 60 sponsors.

Earlier this year, the Philadelphia Chapter was awarded the Chapter Circle of Excellence Gold award, presented by WTS International for its outstanding achievement in helping build the future of transportation through the advancement of women in the region.
