Rick Rogers is ambitious and fun, light-hearted but tenacious – qualities that have made the spaceport leader at Merritt Island, Florida, an invaluable resource within RS&H Aerospace & Defense and beyond. Known as much for his people skills as he is for his aerospace acumen, Rick is passionate about space exploration.
“I don’t think a lot of people know what he’s doing,” says colleague and mechanical engineer Joe Dietz, because of the behind-the-scenes nature of Rick’s work. “But he’s on the forefront of these [space] programs he’s building.”
As spaceport leader, Rick focuses on facilitating commercial space exploration. This entails helping to produce ground support and launch equipment designs and then managing those projects. Rick also offers a high level of insight into commercial licensing through the Federal Aviation Administration, an important skill as commercial space exploration grows.
“It’s an exciting time to be in this field, with the commercial space industry really taking off,” says Rick.
Though Rick’s expertise might start on the launch pad, it extends to the business table, where he assists Senior Aerospace Market Leader Les Lake in garnering potential clients.
Rick can connect with clients, says Les, whether it be in a professional or casual setting.
Rick’s combination of charisma and technical understanding are part of what make him “a rising star,” says Les.
Rick has been with RS&H for five years, serving as a mentor for many of the company’s junior engineers.
“It’s been really exciting to see them grow from straight out of college to producing great feedback and proposing designs with confidence,” says Rick.
Outside of the office, Rick regularly cycles, and he will race in this year’s Bike MS-150 Cycle to the Shore, a two-day event raising money for Multiple Sclerosis. Rick will be joined by numerous other RS&H associates participating as a team this October.
When he’s not at the office or cycling, Rick loves to cook and enjoys woodworking. But Rick, a father of two, loves perhaps most passionately watching the University of Central Florida football team, “the true national champs,” and spending time with his family. And a combination of those two activities – well, that’s not too shabby either.
Rick Rogers, PE, is a graduate of the University of Central Florida, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering. A member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Rick has been with RS&H for five years. He divides his time between Merritt Island, Fla., and Orlando.
