Bridge Laboratories Biomedical Research Vivarium

Bridge Laboratories is a preclinical Contract Research Organization (CRO) that provides U.S.-level regulatory-compliant drug development services globally. Bridge is U.S.-owned and headquartered in Gaithersburg, Maryland, with lab facilities in both the U.S. and Beijing, China. Bridge is known for its extensive work in toxicology, including vaccines, developmental and reproductive toxicology (DART), and safety pharmacology.

RS&H was contracted to provide Bridge Laboratories with programming and planning services for their U.S. and China campuses. The Beijing campus is located in the Zhongguancun Life Science Park, a 615-acre development dedicated to research, mid-level testing, start-up incubation, and medical research and treatment. The existing campus houses an 84,000-square-foot research facility, which is the first Asian pre-clinical CRO with western-level design standards.

As an expansion to the existing campus, RS&H, along with China IPPR International Engineering Corp., programmed and designed a five-story, 136,000-gross-square-foot full-service vivarium with research laboratories for toxicology testing. The facility includes 107 animal holding rooms, cage wash, surgery rooms, procedure rooms, and necropsy labs. The facility is supported by a full-service shipping and receiving dock segregated for animal and non-animal handling. The facility is designed to be both AAALAC multispecies accredited and U.S.-level GLP compliant.
