Corporate Workplace

Waterview Office Development

RS&H designed the Waterview Office Park, home of our corporate headquarters in Jacksonville, Florida, in 2003. The entire complex includes two, three-story commercial office buildings that house multiple tenants and share lakeside patio areas, as well as a common entrance court for visitors.

We have continued to design and implement upgrades to the Waterview I facility, resulting in the building’s LEED Silver certification in 2012.

Upgrades included modifying lighting and controls, replacing plumbing fixtures, and adding CO2 sensors and rooftop unit meters to the mechanical system.

In addition, RS&H helped the owner implement more sustainable policies and procedures for the building’s janitorial staff and waste-management efforts.

RS&H’s companywide recycling program has also resulted in a 50-percent reduction in waste for its headquarters facility, while our affirmative procurement (green purchasing) program promotes the use of recycled products.

Medtronic, Inc.

The project consists of a new, three-story 61,000-square-foot surgical technologies facility, which includes office space and a customer visit center consisting of training spaces, surgical suites, and a 200-seat auditorium.

Medtronic is a global medical device and technologies company that designs and manufactures products and develops surgical technologies surrounding six major areas, including Cardiac Rhythm Disease Management, Spinal and Biologics, CardioVascular, Neuromodulation, Diabetes, and Surgical Technologies. The design work was done in collaboration with Architectural Alliance.

Wells Fargo Center

RS&H was selected by Wells Fargo to assist them in the relocation of their North Florida Headquarters. This project had an intensely compressed schedule which generated the need for the project to be split into separate bid packages that could be designed, bid and constructed independent and simultaneously to avoid any part of the project slowing down another. RS&H mobilized three different teams of architects and engineers to work on the three separate bid packages. This allowed us to meet the aggressive schedule.  

This 120,000-square-foot interior renovation project involved the relocation of Wells Fargo Corporate offices as well as relocation of the Jacksonville Downtown Store to the first floor of the Wells Fargo Center. The eight-floor renovation includes upgrades to building core elevator lobbies and restrooms, development of new office standards, and implementation of new workstation configurations and finishes throughout. This fast-track project included programming through construction documents, which were completed in nine weeks.

iMethods Office Space

iMethods, an IT staffing and consulting company, desired an open, modern office that welcomed visitors, connected their employees, and communicated their core values and culture. RS&H provided interior design services for several areas of the floor plan, including a reception area, interview rooms, a conference room, offices, an open office area, a break room, and a lounge.

Visitors entering the office are greeted with a high-impact, captivating reception area. The curved reception desk with a glass transaction top and brushed aluminum standoffs and reveals inspired the curvilinear features of the floor design and ceiling soffit, giving the area a modern and inviting feel.

The conference room is separated by large sliding doors made of wood and glass. Graphic window films on the doors and large glass window panels add privacy to the space.  Reconfigurable tables allow for a variety of activities, including a large meeting, a training layout, or a smaller group meeting. The feature wall also displays text about iMethods’ core values, mission, and history.

Building on the company’s employee-focused and collaborative culture, the team also designed an interactive lounge with soft seating as a place for employees to relax, play games, brainstorm, and jumpstart new ideas. Private office walls were also given a sleek, full-height storefront to overlook the open office area, allowing employees to more easily interact and collaborate with each other.

Other areas around the office received furniture improvements and contrasting finishes to reinforce the open, modern environment. These design elements will help iMethods reinforce and strengthen their unique company culture as they continue to grow.

The Plantation Clubhouse

RS&H was retained by The Plantation at Ponte Vedra to help bring their campus, originally designed in the ‘80s, up to date while maintaining the classical Plantation style. The Plantation has a private golf club featuring a par 72 championship course designed by Arnold Palmer that is reserved exclusively for members and their guests. The master plan for the resort includes a clubhouse, pro shop, cart barn, beach house, and tennis club. The architectural theme for the renovations to the development is modeled after the existing clubhouse, which invokes an atmosphere reminiscent of a great coastal plantation.

RS&H provided architecture, interior design, mechanical, plumbing, electrical engineering, and planning services to expand the clubhouse, which overlooks the 18th fairway and is situated to take advantage of spectacular views of the lake. The expansion of the clubhouse offers a spacious and relaxed environment for members to socialize and enjoy. The renovations feature a new formal dining, private dining, casual dining in the 19th hole, meeting rooms, and social spaces such as a den, library, and sun-infused plantation room.

Vistakon Americas Sales and Marketing Campus

Vistakon, a division of Johnson & Johnson Vision Care, Inc., is a global leader and medical device manufacturer of contact lenses. Challenged with limited space at their Corporate Campus in Jacksonville, Florida, Vistakon commissioned RS&H to assist them with strategic real estate planning and space optimization for their various business units.

Our solution included consolidation of Vistakon’s Americas Sales and Marketing operations within 33,000 square feet of lease space immediately adjacent to their corporate campus. We used Johnson & Johnson FLEXplace design concepts to provide an open-office, neighborhood environment designed to encourage workplace collaboration, enhance productivity, and accommodate the diverse and mobile workforce. In addition to providing executive offices and a boardroom, the new space featured a mobility center, collaboration areas, focused work areas, neighborhood workstations, and a large training room.

RS&H provided strategic space planning, design and engineering, construction permit documents, contractor bidding support, and contract administration services to deliver a successful solution to meet Vistakon’s needs.

Vistakon at Deerwood East

Vistakon, a division of Johnson & Johnson Vision Care, Inc., is a global leader and medical device manufacturer of contact lenses. In response to Johnson & Johnson’s increased business growth and employee space demands, Vistakon commissioned RS&H to help with developing and implementing strategies to optimize their space, leverage their emerging technologies, and engage their diverse mobile workforce at the Deerwood East location in Jacksonville, Florida.

RS&H collaborated with the Johnson & Johnson Director of Global Workplace Strategy and Vistakon Facilities Planning to deploy Johnson & Johnson FLEXplace, a global workplace initiative designed to enhance employee experience, increase overall productivity, and optimize real estate assets. FLEXplace concepts of activity-based neighborhoods and strategically located mobility centers were incorporated into the final design.

The completed 16,000-square-foot project features neighborhood lounges, individual focus areas, privacy rooms used for private phone calls and/or counseling, team rooms, open collaborative areas, a collaboration café, and a nurture room.

In addition to providing full services for architecture, interior design, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical, RS&H also provided consulting services for furniture selections, specification, and procurement.

Availity

After years of success, Availity, a nationally recognized health information networking company, outgrew its existing office in Jacksonville, Florida, and commissioned RS&H to design a new space that would reflect its corporate culture, foster a collaborative environment, and provide flexibility for future growth.

Translating these intangible qualities into the built environment, RS&H developed an “information-in-motion” design concept that reinforces the organization’s unique brand and services. The idea of transmitting information between people and electronics served as an underlying concept that guided the design. The design concept is reflected in every aspect of the space, like the linear patterns found on the floors that convey a sense of journey.

At the beginning of the project, RS&H led a collaborative effort with Availity’s leadership, marketing, and IT teams to identify work styles and functional needs, as well as to discuss brand attributes that make the company unique. This information, paired with RS&H’s knowledge of current workplace strategies, helped define the new office. Some of the features include custom aluminum and glass wall panels to separate work areas while maintaining a visually open environment, smaller and more efficient work stations allowing Availity to increase collaborative areas, and sophisticated lighting controls that use occupancy-sensing technology to maximize energy efficiency and reduce costs.

The result is a branded environment composed of glass, low-panel workstations, and an open office that fosters a culture of transparency.

SunGard AvantGard Office Space

SunGard is a leading software and technology services company that supports mission-critical operations of financial institutions, businesses, local governments, and others around the world. Its subsidiary, SunGard AvantGard, outgrew their space in Jacksonville, Florida, and considered leasing opportunities to consolidate operations, accommodate forecasted business growth, and be fully operational in a new office by July 2013. By serving as the single source for comprehensive architecture and engineering services, RS&H was able to assist SunGard AvantGard (tenant) and Prudential Insurance Company of America (landlord) to bid, permit, and deliver their project on time and under budget.

RS&H provided space planning services in early February 2013 to assist with evaluations and lease negotiations. Following the completion of a space plan and lease negotiations for the 11th floor of the Prudential Tower in downtown, RS&H served as the designer for construction permit documents and construction contract administration. We expedited fast-track design services and met the aggressive 90-day design and construction schedule required to help SunGard AvantGard avoid extended costs associated with their existing lease expiration.

Our team provided strategic space planning, architecture, interior design, mechanical (HVAC), plumbing, electrical, and consulting services. The project included tenant improvements and upgrades to common areas, such as the elevator lobby and restrooms. To accommodate SunGard’s workforce consolidation and growth projections, we designed an open layout for space optimization, informal “neighborhoods” with interactive media to encourage team collaboration, and more. Additional elements include areas for manager offices, conference rooms, and others.

Crowley Maritime Corporation Headquarters

Crowley Maritime Corporation selected RS&H to renovate its existing five-story, corporate headquarters incorporating an open office environment in order to enhance collaboration between associates. This was a major paradigm shift in culture for the company.

The first floor includes a fitness center, large café and lounge, and training rooms. Floors two through five incorporate open office space, break rooms, various sized enclaves, collaborative areas, and an executive conference room.

RS&H worked closely with Crowley to develop “swing space” during the five-phase renovation. Proper phasing of the project by RS&H allowed Crowley to maintain regular business operations and remain fully occupied and functional during construction.

Crowley’s interest in reducing their environmental impact supported RS&H’s desire to create an environment that promotes sustainability, while being cost effective in operations and maintenance. The facility has been awarded LEED Silver Certification for commercial interiors.

RS&H performed all architecture, interior design, and engineering services. The project design incorporates nautical forms and refined industrial materials, as well as a collection of historic and contemporary photographs to reinforce the Crowley brand.
