On February 5, 2014, the Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport in Northwest Florida was recognized by the National Asphalt Pavement Association (NAPA) with a 2013 Quality in Construction Award for excellence in construction of an asphalt pavement. The award was presented to the contractor, C.W. Roberts Contracting Inc. of Freeport, Florida, at a ceremony during the association’s 59th Annual Meeting in Boca Raton, Florida.
Last month, the New Orleans Aviation Board recommended an $826 million redevelopment plan to improve Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport. According to a recent article by the Greater New Orleans Hotel & Lodging Association, the renovations will transform the mid-century airport into a new airport that represents the modern era.
RS&H provided design and construction administration services for major improvements at the Newport News-Williamsburg International Airport in Newport News, Virginia. The work included a new covered escalator, stairways, and landscaping along with upgrades to Concourse A to match the current terminal appearance. The improvements were completed in fall 2013, with the official opening occurring in November.
“The airport envisioned an area that would provide an aesthetic solution allowing access to passengers currently and in the future to provide a central exterior circulation spline to further airport development,” said RS&H’s Project Manager Mark Wilcer.
RS&H’s Chief Operating Officer Dave Sweeney was recently spotlighted in the Jacksonville Business Journal for his desire to contribute to a community and create lasting impressions through projects. According to the article, his most memorable project was the Bridge of Lions Rehabilitation in St. Augustine, Florida. He recalled first seeing the bridge when he did inspections while working for his previous employer.
“And I remember thinking, I need to be somewhere where we can pursue that work and be able to work on it,” Sweeney said in the article. “And ultimately I moved to RS&H, we pursued that work, we won it and it provided a great opportunity, not just for me, but so many people in this company.”
Sweeney served as the project manager for the award-winning bridge.
