Last month, RS&H’s Phil Schwab authored an article in the American Society of Highway Engineers (ASHE) news update, Inside Lane. The article, “P3s offer financial and design flexibility,” provides an overview of a public-private partnership, a contractual agreement between a public agency and private-sector entity to deliver a public service or facility with the use of private funding.
RS&H is leading the Master Plan that will be released at the beginning of this year for Anchorage International Airport. In a recent article in Airport World, the Master Plan needed to be updated and is a necessary document for the airport to make informed decisions about infrastructure investments. The plan recommends future expansion and will prepare the airport to meet future demand for landings and take offs, passengers, cargo, and general aviation.
The RS&H-designed Duluth International Airport terminal was recently named recipient of the Minnesota Construction Association (MCA) Choice Award for the project of the year. According to the MCA’s newsletter, the $78 million project was a catalyst in boosting the local and state economy by awarding 110 contracts to more than 90 companies, which created more than 300 sustainable construction jobs. The LEED silver-certified 110,000-square-foot building was designed to reflect and showcase the region, as well as keeping the passenger experience in mind.
This is the second distinguished award won by the terminal in 2013. It also won ENR Midwest’s Best Airport Project. Read more about this award here.
The Department of Defense (DoD) recently awarded a contract to RS&H and two other firms for architectural and engineering services to support DoD elementary and secondary schools. According to a recent article in the Jacksonville Business Journal, the projects will be within the continental US, as well as in Europe, Cuba, Japan, and Korea.
RS&H’s designs for previous educational facilities include adaptable learning spaces that accommodate different modalities of learning, such as small or large groups, virtual learning, one-on-one learning, project-based (interdisciplinary), or collaborative education spaces.
