RS&H, one of the leading transportation engineering and construction management firms in the nation, has hired Steve Mackey, PE, as its Northern Virginia Transportation Leader and to run its Mid-Atlantic – North Bridge Group.

“Steve has successfully led many high-profile, large-scale transportation projects, including many here in Northern Virginia,” said RS&H Vice President and Mid-Atlantic Region Leader Dusty Holcombe. “He is highly respected in our industry as an effective leader who gets things done, and we’re excited to welcome him to RS&H.”

Based in the firm’s Vienna, Va., office, Mackey brings more than 30 years of bridge engineering expertise and a portfolio full of renowned, complex projects. He most recently acted as design manager for the main span replacement of the $227 million Arlington Memorial Bridge renovation in Washington, D.C., one of the most historical bridges in the U.S.

Mackey was in charge of the review of all bridge plans and bridge cost estimates for the concessionaire on the Interstate 95 Express Lanes project delivering High Occupancy Toll (HOT) Lanes on the I-95 corridor between Washington and Fredericksburg, Va. He also handled design and project management of the 1,038-foot Route 114 Bridge over the New River located near Blacksburg. In addition, Mackey served as bridge manager for the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project (DCMP), a soon-to-be-completed 23-mile expansion of the existing Metro Rail system in Northern Virginia.

Now at RS&H, Mackey is ready for his next big challenge in the Mid-Atlantic Region.

“I really respect the RS&H team that we have, and we’re excited to grow the Northern Virginia office as we bring in new projects,” Mackey said. “RS&H has a long history of excellence in this industry, but I feel like we have the energy of a startup in this office.”

A native of Upstate New York, Mackey earned a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from Union College and a Master of Engineering in structural engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He can be reached at steve.mackey@rsandh.com.
