![]() Project Description: The West Orange Trail is one of three signature trails owned and maintained by the Orange County Parks and Recreation Department of Florida. Beginning at SR 50, it extends 22 miles north and provides connectivity to a number of parks and recreation facilities along its path. To provide safer access across a busy five-lane, undivided section of U.S. 441, Orange County Department of Capital Projects retained RS&H to design an architecturally themed pedestrian bridge. At the ribbon cutting ceremony, Mayor Land, who has served as Mayor of Apopka for the past 55 years, succinctly stated, “thank you for providing the City of Apopka with its very own bridge, one modeled after the City.” With the new pedestrian bridge, more citizens are enjoying easy walking or biking access to the last three miles of trail and Apopka Station, one of six popular trailheads with outdoor sports, parks, playgrounds and picnic facilities. Encouraging alternative modes of transportation is resulting in an overall healthier society. |
