Kiley Plaza Rooftop Garden

Tampa, Florida

Phase II

Phase I

Client:
City of Tampa

RS&H Role/Responsibility:
Planner, Landscape Architect, and Engineer

Project Description:

RS&H designed the renovation of the Kiley Plaza rooftop garden on top of a parking garage in downtown Tampa. Being in a densely populated area, this green roof gives the citizens a place to enjoy nature, while improving air quality, conserving energy, reducing stormwater runoff and helping to reduce the urban heat island effect.

The first phase of the restoration included meticulous research of the project’s history (Dan Kiley’s original design), a detailed site inventory, investigation of various waterproofing technologies, and a structural evaluation of the garage structure. RS&H completed design plans to catalog and temporarily remove hardscape elements from the garden, replace worn-out waterproofing, improve the drainage system, install a new irrigation system, and replace the Kiley-designed concrete and stone pieces in accordance with the original plan.
