Elementary and Middle Schools RS&H’s elementary and middle school projects demonstrate our understanding of the fundamental need for secure, flexible and advanced teaching facilities that reinforce the idea of school as a fun place to learn. We create designs that open up opportunities for student interactivity, display imaginative uses of color and pay close attention to student scale. Our designs support the complex needs of students, providing space for both collective and individual learning while addressing security issues. To accommodate these needs, we incorporate flexible team teaching spaces, wide-circulation corridors, durable and easy-to-maintain materials and an environment receptive to self-paced student learning. Many of our recent designs incorporate “school within a school” concepts, small learning communities to support students and foster their individual strengths. High Schools As the students prepare for workforce and college entry, we focus our high school designs on innovative technology concepts. Our focus evolves to cater to “high option” learning environments, career and college preparatory programs. While providing a safe and secure environment, these schools offer the versatility to accommodate diverse teaching styles, training requirements, and lifestyle guidance to assimilate the changing needs of education and social trends. Universities and Colleges Our college and university facility designs recognize that modern learning institutions have diverse and often competing demands. All of our designs take into consideration the needs of a diverse student population, planning for future expansion, versatile teaching spaces for multiple uses, and open labs for night and weekend self-paced learning. Interdepartmental cooperation and multidisciplinary centers of excellence generate new models for academic institutions that embrace the coexistence of teaching and research, classroom and laboratories, lecture halls and multipurpose training centers. RS&H has developed the models that look forward to continual evolving technologies, departmental alignments and adaptability for future trends. Performing Arts Centers As our colleges and universities support the arts with the advancement of their performing arts programs and centers, RS&H has developed an in-house specialty that enables the development of these special use spaces on our campuses. Black box concepts, lighting and rigging technologies, acoustical design and aesthetic sensitivity are balanced to accommodate a variety of performances.
